MoU signed between NIT and IWS

The department of civil engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (IWS), University of Stuttgart, Germany.

A release said the MoU was signed to establish a network for academic and research cooperation in areas of water resource management, environmental systems, eco-hydraulics and ecohydrology and to tackle various water management related issues of the region.

To maintain its national importance and establish itself on the international platform, NIT Manipur seeks to establish a linkage between various reputed institutes and industries in the country and abroad.

The University of Stuttgart is a world class research university and it is located in one of Europe’s leading-edge technology regions where it plays a major role as a driving force in innovation.

The signing ceremony was done at IWS, the University of Stuttgart on July 6 in the presence of the delegates and faculties of both institutes. For the signing of the MoU, NIT Manipur was represented by its director, Dr S Birendra Singh while IWS was represented by Prof Dr-Ing Silke Wieprecht.

On July 7, presentation and discussion about the cooperation were held in which one of the major focuses was on the water resource related problem of the region. It was concluded by visiting the VEGAS, Hydraulic Laboratory and current research activities at IWS using various advanced hydraulic instruments which were demonstrated by researchers of IWS, it added.

Further, the release said that the two institutes have agreed through the MoU to exchange information on research and educational programmes, to jointly organise seminars, conferences or workshops on topics of mutual interest and to invite each other’s faculty to participate, and moreover, to jointly propose and engage in water related research projects or training programmes sponsored by funding agencies, to exchange faculty, Ph.D and Master students on a reciprocal basis for the purpose of education and research and to take up joint research project activities.
